While Foxhole extended their torrid run of only one league victory since mid-October, they were at least able to compete sufficiently to equalise twice against the high-flying visitors before succumbing to Aaron Hulme's sixty-sixth minute second goal. Plymstock should have gone ahead inside seven minutes when Palin's error was seized on by Yates whose finish was weak, but they only had to wait another four minutes for the opener, Staines' inswinging corner being met by the head of the unmarked Murdoch, whose conspicuous quality inspired his fellow midfielders to win most of the decisive battles throughout the match. Consequently, the Foxes created nothing until the half hour mark when Griffin first flicked May's cross too high, and then fired in an effort which was deflected wide before his inevitable caution for dissent. However, on forty-four, Ralph's header from Cutlan's corner was gathered by Gill, whose quick throw was intercepted and returned by Cutlan for Griffin to smash home following a scramble. The home team were only on terms for a short time as, four minutes into a bafflingly protracted period of stoppage time, sloppy defending allowed Hulme to restore the lead from ten yards.
The half-time introduction of both Dingle and the returning Kenny, and a switch to 3-5-2 to rectify obvious midfield deficiencies, appeared to pay dividends when Griffin ought to have buried Cutlan's flighted free kick at the far post before the same combination combined for the latter's close-range equaliser on 57 minutes, Gill having been unable to deal adequately with May's high ball. Regrettably, Foxhole were not to seriously threaten the Plymstock goal again despite their best efforts and a noticeable commitment to the cause, as the visitors largely regained control even prior to their winner which Hulme, fresh from a booking for a poor challenge on the impressive Dingle, forced home from a yard after Holland had brilliantly saved Yates' bullet header. Plymstock really ought to have increased their lead, squandering two great opportunities late on, first when Adam Holland, a recent recipient of a yellow card for fouling Yates, lost the ball to Murdoch who released Yates only for the big target man to blaze over the bar, and then when Hulme pulled his shot wide, wastefully forgoing his chance of a hat-trick.
