Plymstock Utd 6 v 5 Foxhole AFC
Saturday 17th September 2011
(Throgmorton Cup)
Foxhole Stars travelled to Dean Cross to face Plymstock in the Throgmorton Cup. Without the services of Ryan Holland, Adam Holland, Adam Trudgion, Sam Kenny and Ben Thomas for various reasons, we where indebted to several second teamers who stepped up from Duchy division 1 to proudly ware a first team shirt.
Spare a thought for Richard Griffin who scored 4 goals and second team keeper Pete James who made kept us in the game with outstanding saves on numerous occasions one double save right at the death which unfortunately could not prevent Plymstock defender Duncan Ruthie from scoring the winning goal.
The goals flowed at regular intervals with Plymstock leading 2-1 at the break with Griffin scoring in between 2 goals from Aaron Hulme.
Second half strikes from Griffin and Giltjes gave the Foxes a short lived lead but strikes from Holt and Hulmes put Plymstock back in the driving seat, Griffin then scored his hat trick goal to send the tie into extra time.
In the first period of extra time Griffin scored his fourth goal to put the Foxes back in front. In the second period of extra time after constant pressure from the home side Foxhole’s stand in manager and captain Lee Hazeldine made a fine double save on the goal line, unfortunately he was not the goalkeeper and left the referee with no alternative but to send him off, Jamie Pook converted the resulting penalty to make the score five each. With a penalty shoot out looming Duthie’s late late strike sent Plymstock through to the next round where they face Tavistock away.
A big thank you to all second teamers who played there part in a very entertaining game of football
