Foxhole 1 v 0 Truro
Saturday 30th January 2010

Foxhole maintained their 100% record against Truro after this hard-fought victory in the Goverseth sleet. The visitors made five changes from last week and provided much sterner opposition, and may feel unfortunate not to return home with a share of the spoils; on the other hand, had Griffin in particular not forgotten his shooting boots, the Foxes could comfortably have sealed the points long before the visitors' late rally.

Griffin may have opened the scoring inside five minutes, but he was unable to turn home Rowe's misdirected effort. Peters soon made the first of several fine saves to deny Griffin when the marine broke clear of a square defence, while Nicholls over-ran the ball when well placed, Hazeldine went close from distance and Griffin chipped just over as the Foxes strove for the opener. Following a scramble, Griffin's shot was deflected wide by Adam Peters during this sustained period of home pressure, while Pugh cleared Rowe's header from the line and another header from the Foxes' skipper floated just past the upright. Ben Williams was showing up well in the Truro rearguard, but he was lucky to escape even a caution after hauling over Griffin. However, justice was done when, from the resulting free-kick, Bird's miscue was seized on by Pinhammer who displayed admirable composure to skip past Williams and fire low into the far corner five minutes before the break. Deadman clearly felt Hazeldine, who may have had the final touch, was offside and was booked for his protests, but Foxhole's lead was deserved after creating such a glut of chances; by contrast, Ryan Holland's heart-beat had only once been raised when his brother Adam's wild slash at Deadman's centre flew over the bar.

Truro began the second-half the stronger with Holland's legs denying Dunn from close-range, before Deadman's drive from the edge of the box skidded narrowly wide. Nevertheless, Griffin's pace was proving a constant threat and he soon raced on to Ansell's pass to round Peters, only for van Evelingen to clear, before his effort with his weaker right foot drifted wide. Nicholls twice also went close, but Foxhole were almost made to pay for their profligacy when, amid a time of countless substitutions from both sides, Truro flooded forward in search of the equaliser. The unmarked Andrews should have done better at the far post from Pugh's cross and two attempts by Ford caused Holland some anxiety before Roberts' flick was well-fielded. But, overall, the Foxes' second successive gutsy performance warranted the victory and only more heroics from Peters prevented Griffin from doubling the lead at the death.
